Claude Monet
The term Impressionist was coined by art critic Louis Leroy in his scathing and satirical review "Exhibition of the Impressionists," and is based on Monet's painting "Impression, Sunrise."
He called the painting an impression because it wasn't "finished" — now Monet has the last laugh as one of the most admired painters from this highly influential and much loved modern art movement.
